Most studios wait. They get profitable, get comfortable, get a marketing person, then write a "purpose" page when someone asks.
We did it backwards. Five Six's 5% pledge went on the website before we'd made enough profit to write a meaningful cheque. Plenty of people will tell you that's daft. Why commit to giving away a percentage of money you don't have yet?
Because that's the only point at which you can do it honestly.
Once a business is profitable, the calculus changes. Suddenly there's a lifestyle attached. There's a runway to protect. There's a "next quarter" that always looks more important than the cheque you promised. The window to make the commitment is now - when the number's small, when nobody's asked, when there's no PR cycle to ride.
So we put it on the site. 5%. Two causes - women in creative spaces, and the carbon cost of the tools we use every day. Not "when the time feels right." Not "once we've scaled." Now. In writing. So future-Five-Six has to honour it.
If we ever take it down, you'll know exactly what happened.
